Scope of Work
Boston Building & Bridge was the general contractor for the demolition and new constriction of Boston Engine 42. This is the first new fire station to be constructed in the City of Boston in over thirty years. The 23.5-million-dollar project consisted of demolition of the existing fire station and construction of a new fire station located in Roxbury, MA. The new fire stations are two stories and a include a mechanical penthouse with an approximate total gross floor area of 23,689 GSF. The building is a steel and concrete structure with exterior walls of masonry and curtain wall.
The design of the building has addressed the City’s Red Neutral and Green containment and air quality fire station work zone requirements to better improve the health of firefighters and staff. The new layout and air management system minimizes particulate contaminates from circulating throughout the house. Having utilized high efficiency building systems, and other measures, the project is targeted to receive the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver certification. Boston Building & Bridge is proud to have been a part of such an innovative project that protects Boston firefighters, focuses on health, safety, and wellness.
