American Architecture Award
Chicago, IL -- December 5, 2024 - We are excited to announce that the Boston Public Library – Faneuil Branch has won an American Architecture Award. The American Architecture Award is given by a non-commercial, non-trade affiliated, public arts, culture and educational institution for best new building design constructed by American architects in the U.S. and abroad and by international architects for buildings designed and built in the United States.
The Faneuil Branch, one of Boston Public Library's twenty-five branches, reopened early 2024 after undergoing a $14 Million dollar facelift with Boston Building & Bridge as the General Contractor and Oudens Ello Architecture as the Architect. The branch is renowned for its iconic Art Deco ornamentation, which was preserved in the renovation while offering a more vibrant and modern atmosphere. The renovation added nearly 5,000 square feet to the 1931 Art Deco building.
Boston Public Library – Faneuil Branch Reopens
Brighton, MA – January 25, 2024 – The Brighton community expressed their excitement over the reopening of the Faneuil Branch Library after three years of renovations. The historic building has received a much-needed facelift, offering a more vibrant and modern atmosphere.
The Faneuil Branch, one of Boston Public Library's twenty-five branches, will celebrate its reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 25, 2024. The renovation added nearly 5,000 square feet to the 1931 Art Deco building. The redesign aimed to highlight the finest features of the historic structure while still creating a modern library. Some of the renovations included improved accessible entrances and restrooms, upgraded technology, community activity rooms to accommodate various project needs, new play areas for children, enhanced sustainability features, and refreshed interior decor and furnishings.
A Massive Renovation “Worth the Wait” - The Curley Community Center
Boston, MA – December 12, 2022 - The Curley Community Center operated by the Boston Center for Youth & Families in South Boston, also known to many as the L Street Bathhouse underwent a massive renovation. The 70-year-old beachfront center closed due to COVID-19 which jumpstarted the existing plan to renovate.
The Curley Community Center offers a wide range of programs and diverse features to residents including state of the art fitness and activity spaces. The $26 million dollar project includes a total reconfiguration of the interior of the space, including a complete replacement of building systems and the addition of a new fire suppression system. The historic structure received partial renovations, including all new glazing, selective enlargements to current window openings, and waterproofing/structural improvements that enable the structure to be more climate resilient to coastal storms and sea level rise. Additionally, the landscapes received modest amenities that enable accessible routes to the beach and street, which are currently unavailable.
Boston Building & Bridge Corp. is working closely with the City of Boston Public Facilities Department and designLAB Architects to create a beautiful space for locals to be able to enjoy.
Renovations To the Rare Books Department at The Boston Public Library Are Complete
Boston, MA – May 31, 2022 - Boston Building & Bridge Corp. has completed the full renovation of the Rare Books Department at the Boston Public Library, Central Branch in Copley Square. Under the leadership of Mayor Michelle Wu, the renovation included substantial renovation with a focus on environmental and mechanical improvements to better regulate temperature and humidity control of the department’s collection storage areas, staff spaces, conservation lab, and public reading room.
This project was a collaboration between the Boston Public Library and the Public Facilities Department, and the firm Finegold Alexander Architects. The Rare Books Department serves as the Boston Public Library’s principal repository of rare books, manuscripts, and artifacts of permanent or enduring value collected for their intellectual content and historical significance. Highlights of the library’s extraordinary holdings-one of the largest in the United States-include medieval manuscripts dating from as early as the 10th century; Colonial and Revolutionary War letters and documents; early printed books; and President John Adams’s personal library. The newly renovated Rare Books Department is slated to re-open Fall of 2022.
Boston Fire Department, Engine 42 Reopens
Boston, MA – October 14,2021 – Boston Engine 42 in Roxbury, MA has reopened after a $23.5 million dollar renovation. The project consisted of the demolition of the existing fire station and construction of a new fire station. The new fire station is a two-story firehouse with a mechanical penthouse.
The new building was designed around firefighter safety, health, & wellness. The new layout and air management system minimizes particulate contaminates from circulating throughout the house. Having utilized high efficiency building systems, and other measures designed around fire fighter health and safety, the project received the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver certification.
Faneuil Branch of The Boston Public Library Improvements Are Underway
Brighton, MA – April 23, 2021 - The Faneuil Branch Library at Oak Square is undergoing a major facelift with Boston Building & Bridge Corp. as the General Contractor. The Faneuil Branch is the smallest and oldest facility and was opened in 1931.
The Faneuil Branch, located at 419 Faneuil Street in Brighton serves Brighton residents, workers, students and community organizations and is known for its excellent children’s programming and collections, as well as author talks, book discussions, musical performances, art exhibitions, and more. The branch is renowned for its iconic Art Deco ornamentation, which will be preserved in the renovation.
The $9.6 million dollar renovation will include accessibility updates to the entrance and restrooms, upgraded technology, a community room that will cater to a range of programming needs, a new children’s space, sustainability enhancements to the building, and updated interior finishes and furnishings that still preserve the historic character and Art Deco design elements of the space. The branch is expected to be closed for approximately 18-24 months.
