Scope of Work

Boston Building & Bridge was the general contractor for the new Mansfield Public Safety and DPW Municipal Complex in Mansfield, MA.  The construction consisted of extensive site development on the 56 acres, construction of a 40,000 square foot combined police, fire, and emergency medical services facility and a 36,500 square public works headquarters and garage.

The project was constructed in two phases.  The DPW Facility was constructed in Phase 1.  The structural system is a pre-manufactured building with interior mezzanine framing consisting of structural steel columns and beams with steel floor decking and concrete. The administrative area is one-story with masonry veneer as part of its building envelope.  The maintenance and vehicle storage areas are located on the ground floor with sealed concrete floors with a mezzanine level for additional storage, offices and mechanical equipment.  This 40,000 sf facility now houses most of the DPW’s vehicles and equipment in the large bays allowing for greater efficiency and cost savings.  It has space to adequately accommodate all of the DPW staff, has a conference room for meetings and training sessions, locker rooms, and larger maintenance bays for repair of the town’s vehicles.

Phase 2 was the construction of the state-of-the-art 2-story public safety facility.  This is a steel frame building with steel floor decking and concrete with brick veneer and fiber cement panel façade.  During the design process the local police officers and firefighters were included in order to make the facility practical and innovative.  There is a shared lobby and community room with a private interview and triage room adjacent.  The police facility area includes a sally port, more secure prisoner processing and detention area, secure evidence processing and storage, a roll call room, and offices.  The fire facility includes 5 double deep, drive thru apparatus bays, fire facility support spaces including S.C.B.A. and decon rooms, living quarters, separate EMS storage, mechanic’s bay, and offices.  The complex is also designed to double as an emergency operations center and expand if necessary.
