Scope of Work
Boston Building & Bridge was the general contractor for the Taylor Square Fire Station Improvement project. This Fire House is a nationally registered historic firehouse built in 1904 and located in iconic Taylor Square, Cambridge. This renovation is part of the Municipal Facilities Improvement Plan. The project consisted of roof replacement including a 24KW solar photo voltaic array, ground source heat pumps including drilling three new wells at the firehouse apron, upgrade to the electrical service including an emergency generator, lightning protection, second floor window replacement, deep cleaned and painted, accessibility upgrades for public access, LED lighting, masonry work at the exterior, and interior water and electrical saving measures.
In order to complete this work, it was necessary to relocate the Taylor Square Firehouse crew. A site was located and BBB established, and helped maintain, a temporary facility for the Firehouse crew. The facility included a temporary fabric structure which housed the department’s apparatuses as well as modular units for office space, sleeping quarters, locker rooms/bathrooms, kitchen, and equipment storage. This facility proved so successful that the city is maintaining it to use for the temporary relocation of other fire crews as their fire stations are renovated as part of the Municipal Facilities Improvement Plan.
